Srinagar: Social networks deeply affect the youth of Kashmir, which leads to many many problems like poor performance and a decrease in mental health and due to this mental health issue today generation also get attached to drugs gets away from society and their own family members. Many young people scroll Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat for hours, neglecting research and real interactions. This excessive screen time reduces focus, weakens relationships, and harms their future.
Mental health is another serious issue. Social media encourages the existence of unreal false perfection, and young minds are left uneasy and disturbed. Most of them compare themselves to influencers and feel less about themselves. Cyber relationship is also a common phenomenon, and most are victimized through the internet, which lowers their self-esteem and emotional well-being.
The fake news spread like a wildfire within a short time, misleading young minds, thus causing unnecessary fear and separation. Additionally, social media decreases the real communication skills. Most young people prefer internet communication for personal interactions. That ends up making them socially stolen and not well-equipped for real-word discussions, interviews/performances. Learning is also affected. The students spend precious time on social networks instead of studying, which leads to poor performance. Relentless distractions of notifications hinder concentration. Sleep habits are also affected at the end of the evening scroll, which brings fatigue, stress, and health problems. Despite all these negative effects, social network can be used actively. Young people need to learn how to use it, make real events paramount, and not compare them to unrealistic images in the virtual world. Parents and teachers have to educate them about responsible use of social media and online security.
Social media has its advantages, but the damaging effects of cashmere young people on it cannot be ignored at any cost, since it may damage one’s mental health, relationships, and even future prospects unless used wisely. Healthy and productive generations need awareness and promotion for the balanced use.
