Srinagar, Feb 1 : Serious concerns have been raised over the misuse of designated bus bays in Srinagar city by ‘Park Adda, an outside company managing roadside parking under the Srinagar Smart City Project. The company has allegedly been occupying spaces meant for public transport, disrupting traffic and inconveniencing commuters.
Several points, exclusively designated as bus stops for RTC and e-buses, are reportedly being used by Park Adda employees for private vehicle parking in exchange for parking fees. One glaring example is outside the Government College for Women on MA Road, where the facility meant for buses to pick up and drop off passengers is now occupied by parked private vehicles, forcing buses to halt in the middle of the road.
This unauthorized occupation of public transport facilities is causing significant traffic congestion and posing a risk to both passengers and motorists. Commuters and transport operators have expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement, calling for immediate regulatory intervention.
They say that In the absence of strict oversight, multiple such bus bays are being utilized for revenue generation by the company, undermining the intended purpose of the Srinagar Smart City Project.
Stakeholders have urged authorities to take swift action to ensure that designated bus stops remain accessible for public transport, improving road safety and easing traffic flow in the city. (CNS)
