ANANTNAG, 05 DEC :Institutional Ethics Committee ( IEC) of GMC Anantnag today held a meeting which was a significant step towards maintaining high research standards. Inaugurated by Principal GMC Ananatnag Prof. Dr. Rukhshana Najeeb, the meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Omar Javed Shah(Ex Director & Dean Skims), alongside a diverse team of medical scientists, social scientists, civil society representatives, and legal experts.
During the session, over 30 research proposals were reviewed, with a focus on participant safety, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. The research proposals involved different departments and reflected the inter-departmental coordination while involving both researchers from young lot blended by the experience of the senior faculty.
The Ethics committee emphasized the integrity required in research and made recommendations to uphold the highest ethical standards. Dr. Mansoor Ahmad, the member secretary, highlighted the progress made and outlined future strategies aimed at elevating research standards.
Notably, GMC Anantnag is one of the few institutions in Jammu & Kashmir that has an Ethics Committee registered with both the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Department of Health Research (DHR). The appreciation from both the Chairperson and the Principal underscored the quality of research being conducted at GMC Anantnag.
