Pulwama, Nov 26, : A fire broke out in the Barsoo area of Awantipora, along the Srinagar-Anantnag Highway, damaging four sawmills and a residential house.
The inferno, which started in a band-saw mill, spread rapidly to adjacent mills and a nearby house, inflicting substantial damage.
Eyewitnesses said that fire engulfed the sawmills and reduced timber worth lakhs to ashes. The owner of the sawmills expressed distress over the loss.
Firefighters from the Fire and Emergency Department responded swiftly, containing the blaze and preventing further destruction. Their efforts saved surrounding structures from damage.
The police registered a case to investigate the cause of the fire. (CNS)
