ANANTNAG, 21 NOVEMBER: The Post Graduate Department of Pharmacology organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Anti-Microbial Resistance” as part of the global AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance] Awareness Week (18-24 November). The event aimed to update healthcare professionals on the latest trends, challenges, and strategies to combat anti-microbial resistance.
Dr. Junaid Ahmed Ahangar, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, delivered the first lecture, highlighting the alarming rise in anti-microbial resistance and its implications on global healthcare. The CME covered topics such as mechanisms of resistance, diagnosis, treatment options, and stewardship programs.
Dr. Firdous Dawood, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine spoke about AMR in the context of a clinical setup and shared his insights over the course of his experience in the clinical field.
Dr. Aamina Samreen, Senior Resident, Department of Microbiology shared an elucidating presentation on the topic of diagnostic stewardship.
Dr. Shihab ud Din, PG Scholar, Department of Surgery spoke on the topic of Atypical portsite infection in laproscopic surgery.
Interspersed were illuminating comments by the esteemed Principal GMC Anantnag, Professor Dr. Rukhsana Najib on the alarming situation this global phenomenon presents as well as a succinct and informative welcome address by Dr. Nasreen Jan, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology.
The Head of the Department, Pharmacology and Associate Professor, Dr. Sami Magray provided a constant oversight throughout the course of the CME and during the course of various Q&As and faculty interactions reiterated the need for approaching this menace with renewed vigour and made a number of important and practical suggestions.
Many healthcare professionals, including clinicians, residents as well as students attended the CME, engaging in insightful discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.
The CME was also preceded by an engaging quiz and poster competition.
“We are committed to addressing the growing concern of anti-microbial resistance through education and collaboration,” said Dr. Sami Magray, Head of the Department of Pharmacology. “This CME is a step towards equipping healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and strategies to tackle this critical issue.”
Principal/ Dean GMC Anantnang congratulated department of pharmacology for taking lead in organising CMEs and conferences of high standard and offered her full support to all the departments of GMC Anantnag to organise such academic events in future.
