Srinagar:On the first working day of the Union Territory Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, MLAs from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have submitted a resolution opposing the revocation of Article 370 and the constitutional changes enacted through the J&K Reorganisation Act of 2019.
The resolution, according to Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, introduced by Waheed Ur Rehman Para (MLA, Pulwama), Fayaz Mir (MLA, Kupwara), and Mohd Rafiq (MLA, Tral), was presented to Speaker Ab Rahim Rather for discussion.
Despite the assembly’s agenda being finalized, the PDP members as per Kashmir Dot Com urged the Speaker to consider their resolution, emphasizing its alignment with the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution calls for the complete rescinding of the changes made to the region’s special status and seeks to restore all constitutional guarantees to their original form.
Following the submission, tensions escalated as BJP members staged protests, demanding that the remarks be expunged and the resolution disallowed.
The Speaker stated he would review the resolution before making a decision, highlighting the contentious nature of the ongoing debate regarding the region’s constitutional status.
As discussions continue, the outcome of this resolution is awaited. (KDC)
