ANANTNAG,15 Oct :- In a significant development,Department of Community Medicine and Department of Pediatrics, GMC Anantnag organised AFP, MR ( measles, Rubella) elimination, VPD (vaccine preventable disease) surveillance & AEFI ( Adverse Event Following Immunisation) workshop. This workshop was organised in collaboration with World Health Organisation ( NPSN) Kashmir & DFW, MCH & immunisation J &K.
The workshop was attended by Principal GMC Anantnag Prof. Rukhsana Najeeb, CMO Anantang Dr M Y Zagoo, WHO surveillance Medical Officer Dr Ashiq Rashid, District immunisation officer Dr Syed Masood Ahmad, Heads of various departments, faculty members and other staff from GMC Anantang and WHO state head office Srinagar.
Dr Hadiya Javid PG Community Medicine was the comparer for the event. HOD Community Medicine Dr Fouzia Nazir welcomed the guests and participants and deliberated on the importance of conduction of such workshops. Dr Showkat Hussain Tali, HOD Pediatrics gave a brief introduction of vaccination preventable disease ( VD) surveillance and its important and relevance. Dr MY Zagoo CMO Anantang in his address deliberated on importance of immunisation and post immunisation surveillance. Dr Ashiq Rashid Mir, WHO Surveillance Medical Officer, gave an excellent over view of immunisation programme VPD , AFP , MR surveillance operational in J and K and India and targets achieved so for. District Immunisation Officer Anantnag, Dr Syed Masood Ahmad also shared his thoughts and insights on the occasion.
Dr Mahbooba Rasool associate Professor SPM in her scientific talk deliberated on various aspects of acute flaccid paralysis ( AFP) surveillance. Dr Bilal Ahmad Najar, assistant professor pediatrics deliberated on Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus surveillance and Dr Junaid Ahangar Assistant Professor pharmacology talked about AEFI Surveillance programme. Dr Showkat, HOD Pediatrics GMC Anantnag presented the vote of thanks at the end of the workshop
Principal GMC Anantnag Prof. Rukhsana Najeeb who was the Chief Guest for the occasion offered her full support to WHO state branch in eliminating vaccine preventable diseases from Jammu and Kashmir. She referred this workshop a beginning of a bigger mission of collaboration between WHO state branch and GMC Anantnag.
