Handwara, Aug 5: A devastating road accident on the Handwara-Bangus road has claimed the lives of two girls from Kashmir capital Srinagar, while two others, including the driver and a child, sustained injuries. The victims were part of a group of families who had embarked on a picnic trip to the scenic Bangus Valley.
Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a sharp turn, causing it to plummet into a deep gorge. The deceased girls, identified as Dr Saba Shafi and Aliza belonged to the same family as the injured boy.
Sources said they hailed from Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar outskirts.
Tragically, one of the victims Dr Saba had recently returned from violence-hit Bangladesh, where she was pursuing an MBBS degree. Her dreams of becoming a doctor were cut short in this unfortunate incident.
The injured, including the driver and the child, were rushed to a Srinagar hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Police in this regard have registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT
