Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Lal Chowk assembly constituency in-charge Zuhaib Yousuf Mir has expressed deep anguish and concern over the current drinking water scarcity in Srinagar as a whole and the Lal Chowk constituency in particular.
He visited Lachman Pora, SD Colony Batamalo to express solidarity with the people who are severely hit by the drinking water crises.
The locals informed Zuhaib Mir that they are unable provide enough water even to old and ill in their homes.
The locals unveiled emotional stories of water crises in their area which moved the listeners.
Zuhaib Mir was anguished to see the complete failure of the LG led administration in providing even the basic necessity of drinking water to the people of Lachman Pora, Batamalo and other areas of the Lal Chowk constituency.
The badly hit and suffering people said to Zuhaib Mir that despite paying water bills, they are craving for a drop of drinking water.
“This is not about one area, but the whole city area is hit by a major water crisis. On a daily basis, the water scarcity is getting worse as the authorities look the other way,” Zuhaib said.
He said that multiple areas of Batamaloo, Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar etc are continuously suffering. Amid the water crisis, they are unable to carry out their daily home chores.
“As authorities are talking about Smart City makeover, we are not getting basic facilities here. People are paying water bills for nothing. If authorities cannot provide them water, they should charge them unnecessarily,” he said.
Zuhaib said that the people of Kashmir are under such inhuman administration due to continuous absence of a democratic and accountable government that they don’t even know whom to go with their grievances.
