As per the PDP sources, the union government hasn’t yet given any final nod over the conditions that party had set for the continuation of alliance with the BJP in the state. So far there has been no word from the union government over whether it would return the power projects to the state or not. Further there is a chaos on ground being found over the revocation of AFSPA from some areas of the state.
The union home and defence ministries respectively haven’t communicated any nod over the issue.
There is also silence being witnessed over the JK specific CBMs that the PDP chief had earlier demanded from the centre
The deadlock over the government formation being witnessed for more than a month would continue in Jammu and Kashmir for now as the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti continues to express reluctance over joining hands with the BJP again. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti at a membership drive in Srinagar said she would not hesitate to go against the tide if it suits the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “You should understand why he (Sayeed) created the PDP. He never used to tread the easy path, but would create (new) ways, however difficult, and when he used to step on that road, he would not look back,” Mehbooba said while addressing people. Meanwhile, top party sources privy to this development told Daily World that the stalemate over the government formation wouldn’t end in the very near future as party is yet to take a final call over the subtle issue that is confronting the state since more than a month.
As per the PDP sources, the union government hasn’t yet given any final nod over the conditions that party had set for the continuation of alliance with the BJP in the state. “So far there has been no word from the union government over whether it would return the power projects to the state or not. Further there is a chaos on ground being found over the revocation of AFSPA from some areas of the state. The union home and defence ministries respectively haven’t communicated any nod over the issue. There is also silence being witnessed over the JK specific CBMs that the PDP chief had earlier demanded from the centre,” said a party functionary while pleading for anonymity. Also what could set the ball rolling over the formation of the new government in the state is that two days after, the PDP chief in an interview hasn’t indicated that the new government would be witnessed in the state very soon. Mehbooba on the contrary has reiterated that the implementation of the agenda of alliance is must and that there should come an assurance from the union government over the same.
Pertinently, Mehbooba guarded in her words had hinted that the agenda of alliance remands partial revocation of AFSPA and return of the power projects. “The ball is in BJP’s court. The party hasn’t to accept the conditions that we have set. We are not demanding anything new, but the strict implementation of the agenda of alliance,” Mehbooba had said in an interview. A senior party leader said that there has been no positive response from the BJP over the conditions that the PDP has set earlier.
“It is very clear. Once the union government accepts the demands and the implementation of the agenda of alliance, the government will be formed. It would not be wrong to say that the ball is in the court of the union government,” says the senior leader. PDP has further hinted at furthering the deadlock by announcing a membership drive of the party in various areas of the state. Mehbooba has, as per sources, asked her party cadre to strengthen the party at the grass root level and made people aware about party’s policy at large. “It has surprised many in the party that Mehbooba instead of talking about the new government formation was asking her party leaders and workers to go in the field and make the membership drive a success,” said a party leader, adding that it seems Governmnet formation at an earliest isn’t among Mehbooba’s priorities.
