The senior PDP leader and parlia- ment member Tariq Hamid Qarra’s recent anti- PDP rant wherein he termed the present dispensation a bunch of ‘cosmetic measures’ has given a clear impression of him along with the other rebels floating the front parallel to the PDP in valley. Qarra in a detailed interview with a news organisation had stated that the PDP’s alliance with BJP has proved detrimental for not only PDP’s in- terests, but the interests of the State as a whole. He has stated that if one does an honest appraisal of this Gov- ernment’s six month tenure, nothing seems to be happening on the ground on political, developmental and eco- nomic fronts except tempestuous controversies and volte-faces on cru- cial issues.
“There seems to be more of rhetorical symbolism in this Government’s functioning than any tangible deliverance on ground. Although we were told through a barrage of me- dia reports that a financial package is on the way for rehabilitation of the flood-affected and reconstruction of infrastructure, nothing tangible has come so far,” Qarra was quoted by the reports as saying. He added that the rhetorical talk of a “huge financial package” has only dented the image of this Government further.
“If New Delhi can reach out to the people affected by natural calamities in Uttarakhand and Nepal with hefty relief and rehabilitation packages, what is preventing it from doing so in Kashmir?” Training guns against his own party, Qarra had stated that unlike 2002-2005 era, when some pioneering initiatives were taken on political and economic fronts vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir, the beleaguered State Government is today trying to project even small cosmetic initiatives in various sectors as major developmental interventions” Meanwhile, Qarra along with the parliament member MuzzafarHussainBeigh had been pitching against the government over what the duo termed the non- seriousness towards mitigating the problems being faced by the people of the state. Beigh in the past had castigated the finance minister HaseebDrabu, alleg- ing him of showing false dreams to the chief minister and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Beigh had also openly declared that some ministers in the present regime have become arrogant and that the chief minister is himself in a difficult situation.
“ There seems to be more of rhetorical symbolism in this Government’s functioning than any tangible deliverance on ground. Although we were told through a barrage of media reports that a financial package is on the way for rehabilitation of the flood-affected and reconstruction of infrastructure, nothing tangible has come so far,” Qarra “
As the two senior faces of the PDP have been expressing their disgruntlement in open, there are high chances of the duo forming a parallel PDP front in Jammu and Kashmir. Reports informed that the workers of both Beiigh and Qarra have been asking their leaders to float their own political party so that their prestige and honour could restored. Sources said that both the leaders firmly believe that there are several leaders in the PDP who support their stand and are ready to strengthen their feet whenever required. There are also reports that the education minister NaeemAkhtar and finance minister HaseebDrabu, who are believed to have supplanted MuzzafarBeigh and TarriqQarra as the most important figures in the party. Their role in PDP’s affairs has been diminished after the two, believed to be chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s trusted lieutenants, took the centre stage.
